The Snowshoe Gravity Series 1&2 is one of the premiere mountain bike races in the Mid-Atlantic, and is open to bikers of all skill levels. The series of races which will be hosted in Snowshoe WV will allow mountain bikers to test there skills against a course designed with several technical components and severe degrees of slope. Many of the step downs have bail out or alternative routes for bikers who are not yet comfortable with controlling their bikes during leaps and jumps. Many will find that the mountain side courses are very suited for even the most experienced mountain biker.
Beginners will also be able to enjoy the course as sections are designed for their skill levels while not diminishing the experience for the more skilled riders. Sections of the course branch off to less severe sloped areas and the trails for all of the riders are clearly marked and include a variety of elements which make the ride challenging. Riders will descend approximately 1500 feet of a severe vertical grade on a course cut along the Western Territory over two separate courses.
Snowshoe Gravity race one (1) will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2014, while race two (2) will be on Sunday, June 29, 2014. Registration will be on Friday June 27, 2014. The schedule for each day of racing will be the same:
- From 7:00AM to 10:00PM riders will be allowed last minute pick up of registration packages.
- A practice run for all racers will be held at 9:00AM to 10:30AM.
- Elite racers will have a dedicated practice run at 10:30AM to 12:00PM.
- The starting list will be posted at 12:30PM with the first races beginning shortly afterwards.
- The award ceremony for the day will be at 6:00PM in the village.
Snowshoe is located in Pocahontas County, West Virginia. The center of activity for the town is the Snowshoe Mountain Ski Resort. The location is ideal for winter skiing as it is located in the Allegheny Mountains, and is in a bowl-shaped area created by the convergence of two ridges of high mountains (Cheat and Back Allegheny). The Village of Snowshoe is actually located on the summit of the mountains instead of its base. Snowshoe’s reputation is established for both its skiing in the winter as well as its mountain bike racing in the summer time. The areas has substantial sport-related development including bike trails, a golf course, recreational sites and cross-country racing courses.
Lodging is still available for this event by visiting www.mountaintopcondos.com or call (724) 252-7761.

I hope this is going on next year (2015) because I want to take my Grandson. He would LOVE this and he would really enjoy going into the mountains. Winter is just around the corner so I can’t wait to see what is going on in Snowshoe! Love it!!
I certainly couldn’t handle the biking but this sounds great for expert bikers and boys who love to ride. I would love to just go for the scenes. The sunset/rise is stunning in that picture. Falling asleep or waking up to that, either way, such a dream.
This looks like a gorgeous setting for a mountain bike race! I think my fiance would love to go to something like this for our next vacation and I would probably enjoy it too. I’ll have to check it out more.
