Registration opened recently for an annual winter sports event of interest to people in the Snowshoe WV area and throughout the Allegheny Mountain region. Mountaineer Parks announced that the 2016 Snowshoe WV Open will occur at its Snowshoe Mountain ski resort in Snowshoe WV on Saturday, February 27th, 2016. The company accepts registrations in advance and also at the gates on the day of the competition.
This yearly winter sports event encompasses an entire day of practice and competition. Practice sessions will allow competitors to familiarize themselves with the area before the competitive matches begins at 2 p.m. in the afternoon.
Skiers and Snowboarders
The most skillful skiing and snowboarding athletes in the region will vie with one another for titles and prizes. The sponsor plans to award a variety of prizes that include:
- Cash awards;
- Athletic Gear;
The sponsor indicated that the prize purse will depend upon the number of contestants participating in each event. Practice and competitive events will occur at two sites in the resort: Evolution Park and Snowshoe.
A formal awards ceremony will occur an hour after the last competition at the 20 Below Teen Center in the Big Top, a 15,000 square foot playground located at the resort.
A one-day registration of $35 plus tax and a $45 plus tax competitor lift ticket rate apply. A parent or guardian must appear and sign a waiver for participation by anyone under the age of 18.
The sponsors will accept competitors in four separate categories:
- Male ski
- Male snowboard
- Female ski and snowboard
- Youth age 14 and under ski and snowboard
Every participant in the Snowshoe WV Open will receive a bib at the time of registration. Skiers and snowboarders must wear this attire in order to access the lift line made available for competitors. Additionally, participants should bring a helmet and lift tickets in order to compete in this annual event.
Snowshoe Mountain, a celebrated resort in Snowshoe WV, welcomes guests around the year, offering both winter and summer recreational activities. The facility currently provides 235 open acres, with some 56 open trails and 11 open lifts. The resort covers 11,000 acres and offers many sporting, recreational, dining, shopping and entertainment opportunities for visitors throughout the year.
