As states in the Southeastern United States begin reopening after the COVID-19 pandemic, Downhill Southeast Series (DHSE) has announced that they will proceed with four (4) downhill mountain biking races starting in June. Most of the original schedule was pushed back due to local laws and regulations surrounding large crowds/events. The new schedule includes a stop in crowd-favorite Snowshoe, West Virginia on August 1 & 2, 2020.
Race Details
Racing will proceed under local guidelines with social distancing techniques in place. This includes online-only registration, staggered lift lines and modified awards ceremonies (podiums will be held for each category, directly after they complete the race). Dowhnhill Southeast number plates and packet pickup will take place at The Big Top from 9AM to 2PM on 8/1 and 9AM to 10AM on 8/2.The Snowshoe Mountain Bike race will be conducted via time trial rather than a mass start event will make it easier for riders to avoid close contact while competing. “Bring a Buddy” Program: To encourage female participation, any registered female racer can bring a partner to race for free. “Buddies” must check-in at The Big Top, 8/1 between 9AM to 2PM to be registered for the race.
Downhill Southeast Pricing
Downhill Southeast “early-bird pricing” will offer a $10 discount to the first fifty (50) riders who sign up for each event. Regular pricing will be applicable until the week of the race, then a $10 late fee will be added for the week of and onsite registration. This will assist the DHSE crew plan accordingly for the correct number of riders – delivering the best event possible.
Trail Closures
During the Downhill Southeast race, trail closures will be limited to the Central Western Territory area of the bike park. Western trail favorites such as Skyline, Ninja Bob, Ball’N’Jack, etc. will remain open to the public. The basin trails to include Easy Street, Dreamweaver, etc. will also remain open.
