Wine and Jazz Festival Returns to Snowshoe

By on June 6, 2018

Wine and Jazz Snowshoe WVOh, sweet summer children, your months have finally come! So, it’s time to celebrate the season at the Snowshoe Mountain Wine and Jazz Festival. A mere fifteen-hundred minutes west of the nation’s capital sits an augustly alpine oasis, Snowshoe Mountain. There, the air is crisp and the atmosphere restorative. In Snowshoe WV, trees meditate, wildflowers sway and bunnies bound; it’s a quixotic bucolic getaway.

Yearly, during West Virginia’s profligate display of organic summer splendor, Snowshoe serves as stage to one of the region’s most enjoyable fetes, the Taste of the Mountain Wine and Jazz Festival. Work-worn guests arrive on the evening of Friday, June 15th; on Sunday the 17th, they checkout rested and ready to win the week.

This year’s program is a tour de force featuring wine pairing opportunities, a grand tasting event and stellar musical performances. Think of it as Coachella for the mid-Atlantic wine-and-cheese set.

This year’s program kicks off at 7:00pm on Friday, June 15th, with a “wine pairing experience.” Project Natale, a 30-year-seasoned jazz quartet, will play you into the night. Feel like cutting a rug? Shed your subdued thing and shake your groove thing!Wine and Jazz Snowshoe WV

The next morning, leisurely awake and take your pick of breakfast options. During the day, book a massage, go for a hike or dive into a book on your balcony. But make it to Skidder Slope by 4:00pm for some smooth jazz, gourmet food samplings, and, of course, plenty of good wine — barefoot kangaroos need not apply. (Are you sure you’re not in Verbier right now? Are you positive that isn’t Prince William doing “the dad shuffle” on the dance floor?)

On Saturday, between 3:30pm and 5:15pm, adult contemporary artists Shane Meade and the Sound will kick off the day’s dulcet sets. Self-described as “soul-infused folk rock, with a splash of jazz and mountain funk,” Shane Meade and company always delight.

Wine and Jazz Snowshoe WVThen, at 5:30pm, Landau Eugene Murphy Jr., a homegrown West Virginian and America’s Got Talent winner, will take the stage and proceed to rock your audible socks. At 9:45pm, Shane Meade and crew come back for a late night acoustic set.

On Sunday, awake and head to the al fresco brunch before checking out, hopping in the car, and cruising back home, refreshed and rejuvenated.

Does that sound like a plan? Go here to snatch up your tickets for the Snowshoe Wine and Jazz Festival. Treat yourselves to a tranquil, gorgeous getaway; because yes, you do deserve it.

Freefall Festival Snowshoe WVMusic & Fun on the Mountain

Headlining this year’s musical selection is the chart-topping Reggae artist Matisyahu. Matisyahu has been in the limelight since 2005, when his album Live at Stubb’s reached the #1 position on Billboard’s Reggae Album’s Chart. Matisyahu has been able to expand beyond the Reggae scene, reaching global success with his hit single “One Day” in 2009. Other artist who will be playing in the concert series include Live Music Daily’s Best Rising of Artist of 2014, Big Something. Also, Brooklyn-based funk-band Pimps of Joytime. Oh yeah, did I mention all of this is free? It’s sure to be a great time.

Ballhooter Spring Break a hit at Snowshoe WV

By on March 16, 2016

Snowshoe, West Virginia was the location for the fourth annual Ballhooter Spring Break Festival from March 11-13, with performances by some big name entertainment. Bud Light sponsored this year’s festival, which featured Brooklyn recording artists, American Authors, with their recent hits, “Best Day of My Life” and “Believer”. Snowshoe WV is the backdrop for this annual festival that attracts hundreds to the area each year.

The weekend in Snowshoe WV began on Friday night with the Shamrock Shuffle theme in full swing. After the pre-party in The Connection Nightclub, there was a T-shirt design contest and a prize wheel for guests twenty-one and over. At 10pm the Davisson Brothers Band rocked the house with their unique combination of bluegrass, country and southern rock. Music has been in the Davisson family for generations and they sing of their West Virginia roots and family back home. They featured a raucous rendition of their new single, Jesse James. The evening concluded with a silent disco party at Shavers Centre Plaza.

ballhooter spring breakSaturday began early with a yoga class and a free Bloody Mary bar. Great way to start the day! At noon, a Budweiser sponsored games event was held at the Boathouse. They served bratwurst, burgers and beer while the patrons enjoyed bowling and snowball games capped off with a bikini contest. At 7pm on the Village stage, the Midwestern sounds of Lissie filled the air. Even though she is a California based artist now, her music has the quality of her rural upbringing. The range of her talent was on display as she transitioned from her well known song “Hollywood”, to the more down home essence of “Ojai”.

Ballhooter Spring Break Welcomes Lissie

Lissie’s stellar performance was followed by an exciting show from American Authors that brought Snowshoe WV to their feet at the Village Stage. The internationally known band was formed at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, then moved to Brooklyn after graduation where they struggled for many years before the success of their first album, the optimistic “Oh, What a Life”. They were the highlight of the weekend as they rocked the Village Stage through the night. For those who preferred a change of pace, Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band was bringing the house down at the Connection Nightclub with their country blues style.

The Ballhooter Spring Break in Snowshoe WV is a party everyone should experience. Make plans to attend and you will be sure to have a great time!
